Creative Faculty

The Creative Faculty is a thriving hub of subjects, promoting inspiration and opportunities for students: to develop their confidence; to explore and build knowledge and self-efficacy to be successful in a range of distinct provisions. We aim to foster critical and cultural knowledge built from a creative understanding, enabling students to appreciate and explore the wider world around them.

Our Faculty consists of an inspiring and dedicated teaching team that have a wide and varied range of disciplines. These directly feed into the broad, exciting and innovative creative curriculum that is on offer throughout KS3 and KS4.

Within the Creative Faculty we enhance students' visual language, as well as their understanding of a range of technical skills and critical theoretical knowledge, which enables them to translate their thoughts and ideas into creative outcomes. The Faculty actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with external agencies to enhance the learning provisions available.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 we deliver a broad creative curriculum which enables our students to experience an extensive range of materials, techniques and processes. Students complete rotations throughout the year experiencing Fine Art, Creative Media, Photography, Graphics, Textiles, 3D Design and Food Preparation & Nutrition. All projects have critical and analytical studies to enhance contextual knowledge and understanding.

Independent Learning is developed through a range of tasks that build upon prior and current in-class topics. We encourage students to be proud of their work and showcase their efforts through the school newsletter.

Arts Award qualification at Bronze level is available for the Year 9 cohort which is complimented with the curriculum yet strives for personal initiative, organisation and commitment.

Through the Food Preparation & Nutrition rotations students are provided with the opportunity to explore a wide range of skilful recipes. Recipes are selected to compliment the structured theoretical learning which covers a range of topics from diet and health, food science to food provenance.

Key Stage 4

There is a large uptake for subjects in the Creative Faculty at GCSE; selecting specialisms from the AQA Art and Design specification as well as the AQA Food Preparation & Nutrition.

The Art and Design Curriculum is structured to build upon our Key Stage 3 knowledge and skills, allowing students to continue to explore and appreciate a wide range of materials, techniques and processes. Students follow a foundation skills based project, before exploring independently derived ideas through research of relevant contextual sources and first hand experiences. Staff encourage students to work to their personal strengths specialising with techniques and processes that are relevant and appropriate to their ideas and proficiency.

GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition teaches students about the following sub topics; food preparation skills, food, nutrition and health, food science, food safety, food choices and food provenance. Practical's are used to enhance theoretical knowledge. Students complete their Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate as an addition qualification.
